Strengthening M&E systems through data analysis using R programming.
This session provides an introductory overview of R programming, covering its purpose and benefits, particularly for Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) professionals. It guides participants through downloading and installing R and RStudio, understanding the RStudio interface, and working with fundamental concepts such as data types, mathematical expressions, vectors, data frames, and packages/libraries. The session concludes with a practical, advanced example tailored to the needs of M&E professionals, demonstrating how R can be applied to real-world evaluation tasks.

Brief Bio of the Presenter (Methodius)
Methodius is a Monitoring and Evaluation professional with a solid academic foundation in statistics and evaluation. He holds a Bachelor of Statistics from Makerere University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation from Uganda Management Institute.
He brings hands-on experience from various national and international organizations. Currently serving as a Uganda Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Field Data Coordinator at One Acre Fund, he has previously worked as a Research and Learning Analyst at Asigma Capital Advisory Services, a Data Management and Analysis Consultant for Makerere University’s Pathogen Economy Project, a Research Assistant Consultant for FAO, and a Project Statistician with the Africa One Health University Network. He is also a part time facilitator for data management and sharing at Africa One Health University Network Academy (AFROHUN Academy) for “Post Graduate Diploma in Inter Africa Pandemic Preparedness with a One Health Approach” programme.
Methodius is dedicated to applying statistical principles and software in revolutionising monitoring and evaluation. He has for over years gained first-hand experience in use of data analytics and visualisation software that include R, Python, STATA, SPSS, MS Excel, PowerBI, Looker studio and QGIS. His work has focused on translating complex data into actionable insights to support evidence-based decision-making.
